An ordinary building with extraordinary performance and experience:

ETRI had originally selected an architectural firm for its new Main Research Building through a limited design competition. As the winning design proved to have some serious flaws, Oikos was contracted for Building Design Supervision and Quality Enhancement, and for Landscape Design.

Oikos provided an alternative schematic design that Heelim Architects developed further under Oikos' guidance. To produce this high performance, low-energy building Oikos retained first-rate foreign consultants for acoustics, audio visual system, day- lighting and energy conservation, illumination, HVAC, as well as for the state-of-the-art marble-effect exposed concrete. The opportunity to interactively design buildings and landscape resulted not only in close indoor/outdoor integration but also a marked improvement of interior experience. In addition to providing architectural improvement and introducing numerous technological innovations for 'value architecture' for the first time in Korea, Oikos was able to reduce the original building cost by 10%.
