POSCO CORPORATE HEADQUARTER, Seoul, 1993

Scope

Landscape Design, Construction Supervision

Client

POSCO (Pohang Steel Corporation)

The new corporate headquarter building for Pohang Steel Corporation, POSCO, the world's 2nd largest steel maker, is a cutting-edge, modernist building with a vast atrium at the entrance level. Oikos' design of both outdoor and indoor landscape aims to soften the glass and steel environment of the building with a rich experience of plants, water and artwork. Different outdoor places on all four sides of the building bring the landscape close to the building walls and positively affect indoor experience. The atrium, originally designed with fountains and water channels, bamboo groves and art work, to create a friendly arrival experience and a place for casual social interaction, was left empty by the client for fear of undesired loitering.
