This Island Redevelopment Proposal for Sunyu Island, located in the Han River in Central Seoul, incorporates selective reuse and recycling of existing Drinking Water Purification Plant buildings and outdoor facilities (Water Basins, Storage Tanks and Purification Equipment) into a fun-filled urban park. Proposed are: soft-engineering and softening of the harsh industrial areas with abundant vegetation, retrofit of basins into a large swimming pool and water park as well as a sunken river garden area, linkage of the drastic level difference between the bastion-like upper area and the flood-prone lower river edges, and high-lighting of the Han River ecology.
